Energy
Star, the United States government program that addresses efficiency
in consumer products, has not yet provided ratings for an energy efficient
dryer vent or an energy efficient dryer. However, the European Union
(EU) rates dryers by the amount of energy used per kilogram of clothes.
You can search the Web to see if the EU has rated any of your equipment.
To make sure you have an energy efficient dryer vent you should clean
your event annually. Lint and other debris can build up over time.
If this occurs the vents will not operate efficiently.
Certified technicians can be hired to help make sure you have an
energy efficient dryer vent. The technician will clean the vent and
make sure the correct type of duct is used. If you have a gas-operated
dryer, the technician will make sure you have proper ventilation so
that carbon monoxide cannot be forced back into your living space.
