According
to the U.S. Dept. of Energy, Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy,
“new lighting technologies can reduce lighting energy use in
homes by 50% to 75%” As 15% of household electricity use is
through artificial lighting, energy efficient light bulbs are a sensible
and easy way to reduce energy costs.
Energy efficient light bulbs range in size, type and style. There
are three primary types of bulbs (also called lamps).
•Incandescent
•Fluorescent
•High Intensity Discharge
While incandescent are the cheapest to buy initially, ultimately
they do not last as long and use more energy than energy efficient
light bulbs such as fluorescent and high intensity discharge lamps.
Fluorescent bulbs are now available in a wide range of sizes and styles
in order to provide comfortable and energy efficient lighting.
